FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – JUNE 15, 2022

Jon Meyers To Read At VOICE & VISION

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (June 15, 2022) – Voice & Vision: Presented by Spalding University’s Naslund-Mann Graduate School of Writing, The Louisville Review & 21c Museum Hotel will feature four distinguished authors and poets as well as celebrate Pride Month for the upcoming edition of the popular annual summer reading series on Thursday, June 16, 2022, from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. at 21c Museum Hotel, 700 West Main St., in downtown Louisville.

The June program features writers Jason Cooper, Jon Meyers, Jasemine “Jazzy J” Reed, and Robert Eric Shoemaker. Hosts Lynnell Edwards and Katy Yocom will read briefly from Creativity & Compassion: Spalding Writers Celebrate Twenty Years, an anthology of essays by the faculty of the Naslund-Mann Graduate School of Writing.

We will begin with a brief walking tour led by museum manager Karen Gillenwater to see Portia Munson’s installation The Garden in the 21c Louisville video lounge. Created over a period of twenty-three years, Portia Munson’s expansive, site-specific installation envelops the viewer in a kaleidoscope of floral dresses, furnishings, stuffed animals, fake flowers, and other objects of artifice. Baskets filled with flowers, dressing tables laid with the accoutrements of femininity, a repurposed church announcement sign chockfull of bunnies, a decorated Derby hat, and lamps fashioned from dolls, are among the thousands of details that draw and disperse the viewer’s attention, and suggest an atmosphere both fanciful and funerary. This is a woman’s bedroom, envisioned as a fantastical memorial to excess, a shrine-like site at once mournful, celebratory, and disquieting.

We hope you’ll join us for a wonderful celebration of the interrelatedness of the literary and visual arts with complimentary light snacks. This is the first time in two years that the series will take place fully in person. The previous two seasons were held on Zoom due to the pandemic.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – MARCH 8, 2021

Jon Meyers Named Literary Fiction Genre Manager

Amsterdam, New York – March 8, 2021 – LitCon, a yearly live online literary convention, has named screenwriter Jon Meyers as their first Literary Fiction Genre Manager for their 2022 literary conference.  Meyers participated in the 2021 conference as a featured panelist on two screenwriting panels last weekend.

LitCon features craft discussions with published authors in multiple genres: Fantasy, Science Fiction. Horror, Poetry, Mystery/Thriller, Young Adult, Children’s Books, Screenwriting – and now, Literary Fiction.

“Although I was invited as a screenwriter, and I will still be returning as a screenwriter in 2022, our pre-conference discussion somehow veered off into the novel I will be finishing later this year,” Meyers said.  “My novel – which I started in Dr. Nancy Dinan’s Advanced Fiction course — doesn’t really fit into any of LitCon’s existing genres, so we were talking about the best fit for me next year.  One thing led to another, and they not only added Literary Fiction, but handed over what that will look like to me.”

LitCon was birthed as a result of attendees from several other book conventions wanting to see these craft and publishing conversations continue — despite many other conventions going by the wayside.  LitCon allows attendees to network with fellow authors, publishers, service providers, book bloggers, and most importantly readers. Previous virtual conventions with which LitCon’s board has worked saw between 800 and 2,000 participants — plus online traffic in the thousands during the weekend of the events.

“Jon Meyers was an invaluable member of our screenwriting panels during LitCon 2021,” said LitCon founding board member Alison Weaverdyck, who publishes under the name of Phoebe Darqueling.  “I look forward to working with him next year as our Literary Fiction Genre Manager.”

Meyers has a B.A. in Film, and an M.A. in English.  He graduates this summer with an M.F.A. in Screenwriting.  Meyers also serves as the only US moderator at IntoTheScript, formerly Bang2Write, England’s foremost online screenwriting community.  Renowned for its “no nonsense, detailed writing and career advice,” IntoTheScript is an online craft and writing tip resource for professional writers, with an emphasis on screenwriting and novel writing.  Meyers also occasionally serves as an hourly host for DePaul’s Scott Myers’ monthly 24-hour online screenwriting marathon at ZeroDraftThirty.

LitCon 2022 will take place March 4-6, 2022.  Registration has already opened for LitCon 2022 at:  https://tinyurl.com/yckwadkt . For more details, go to LitCon.org .
